Tamil Nadu: Police seize 13 kg cannabis from man

The report adds that Veeramani was sourcing the contraband from numerous places in Andhra Pradesh.

On Monday, a man was arrested in Madurai with 13.5 kg of cannabis (ganja) by the City Shadow Police. The man identified as Veeramani, 40, of Usilampatti in Madurai,was found with the contraband.

Police have The Hindu that Veeramani was trapped when he reached the Nemom railway station in Madurai. The city Shadow team had reportedly arrested one of his accomplices the previous week. The police then laid a trap and had someone pose as a prospective client to lure him into the trap.

Sharaf of Undappara was arrested with 2.5 kg of ganja last week adds the daily. The police took his statement post which they decided to lay a trap for Veeramani. The report adds that Veeramani was sourcing the contraband from numerous places in Andhra Pradesh. They were storing the cannabis in illegal storehouses in Madurai and Usilamppatti for distribution to agents. These agents reportedly took the contraband to Kerala by train and bus. 

The police have stated that they posed as friends of Sharaf and then got Veeramani to meet them. The daily adds that the operation was overseen by the City Police Commissioner G Sparjan Kumar and Deputy Commissioner of Police G Siva Vikram. More arrests are likely to follow since they have access to more information about wholesale contraband dealers states the report.
