Tamil Nadu: Jayalalithaa flags off 766 new buses in the state

She launched 701 new government buses and 65 small buses at a cost of Rs 144.47 crore said a press release.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who is gearing up for the state elections, has flagged off 766 new buses in the state on Monday. She launched 701 new government buses and 65 small buses at a cost of Rs 144.47 crore said a press release.

Jayalalithaa inaugurated the services in the secretariat.

The split up of the 766 buses in terms of operations are as follows:  

52 buses will be operated by Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), Chennai;
97 by Tamil Nadu StateTransport Corporation (TNSTC), Villupuram;
85 by TNSTC Salem;
93 by TNSTC, Coimbatore;
202 by TNSTC, Kumbakonam;
154 by TNSTC, Madurai;
18 by TNSTC, Tirunelveli.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister also launched 65 new small buses in Chennai. The buses are going to be run on 30 routes as designated by the MTC.

P. Thangamani minister for health, Dr C.Vijaya Baskar, chief secretary K. Gnanadesikan, and government advisor Sheela Balakrishnan were present when Jayalalitha officially launched the new buses.
