To protest against Chief Minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami's trust vote, Opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) begun their hunger strike protest on Wednesday, over the recent ruckus that took place in Tamil Nadu Assembly few days ago.

DMK's working president MK Stalin leading the strike, addressed his supporters this evening. "Hunger protest which we are undertaking today is not for us. It is against benami rule established in Tamil Nadu," he said. He also blamed Sasikala for Jayalalithaa's death and said that if proper probe takes place into Jayalalithaa's death, the person who's in jail for four years will be awarded lifetime imprisonment.

Meanwhile, the Madras High Court on Monday adjourned to Monday the DMK's plea seeking to declare null and void, the vote of confidence in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

The court has also asked the petitioners to submit a video of the ruckus in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

Palanisamy had won the trust vote 122-11 in the 234-member Assembly, aided by the eviction of DMK and walkout by its allies last Saturday.

DMK has 89 MLAs in the Assembly. The division vote was taken up after two adjournments following uproarious scenes as opposition MLAs insisted on a secret vote, which was rejected by Speaker P Dhanapal.

Earlier, the DMK moved a no-confidence motion against the Assembly Speaker, with the party's working president and leader of opposition in the Assembly, MK Stalin accusing the Speaker of deliberately harping on his community to malign the party.
