Advocate general Vijay Narayan submitted the DVAC’s investigation report before Justice AD Jagadish Chandira who is hearing the plea moved by the DMK seeking a probe by a SIT into the corruption allegations
The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Tuesday gave a clean chit to Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami from the corruption allegations levelled by the DMK and informed the Madras High Court that no cognisable offence has been made out against the CM and no irregularities have been found in awarding highway contracts.
Advocate general Vijay Narayan submitted the DVAC’s investigation report before Justice AD Jagadish Chandira who is hearing the plea moved by the DMK seeking a probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the corruption allegations.
After recording the submissions, the judge reserved his orders on the plea. Representing the DMK, senior counsel N R Elango contended that the petitioner lost hope in the DVAC during the course of hearing as it completely batted in favour of the chief minister from the beginning of the case.
“Since we concluded that the DVAC cannot do a fair and impartial investigation, we filed an additional affidavit seeking transfer of the probe to the SIT,” he said.
Dismissing the DMK counsel charges against the investigating agency, Narayan submitted that the DVAC had conducted the preliminary inquiry as per the procedures and the findings had been forwarded to the vigilance commissioner.
When Justice Jagadish Chandira sought to know whether the state highway department and the DVAC come under the administration of the chief minister, the advocate general said the highways department comes under the CM but the DVAC is an independent authority administered by vigilance commissioner who is a senior IAS officer in the cadre of additional chief secretary.
