Fresh trouble is brewing in the ruling AIADMK with its presidium chairman and RK Nagar bypoll candidate E Madhusudhanan has written to Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam blaming senior ministers and party functionaries for the party's humiliating loss in the by-election.

Madhusudhanan lost the bypoll by a margin of 40,000 voters to the sidelined AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran who contested as an independent candidate. The election was held after the ruling AIADMK got the party's two leaves symbol.

In the letter, Madhusudhanan has sought to know why no action has been taken against any party functionary so far for the party's defeat in the December 21 bypoll. AIADMK sources said that party veteran wanted to know why no meeting was convened to find out the reasons for the party's loss in the bypoll. The senior leader also hinted at differences between leaders of two factions in the constituency.

A senior AIADMK leader said that party presidium chairman suspect that Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar has sabotaged his victory. In the run-up to the bypoll, Jayakumar who belongs to EPS camp had opposed Madhusudhanan's candidature as he was Panneerselvam camp's candidate in the April bypoll which was cancelled by the Election Commission for the large-scale distribution of money to the voters.

Madhusudhanan, a former minister, sources said pointed to the action initiated by the DMK which had lost its deposit in the bypoll against its party office bearers. "If Jayalalithaa was alive, all the functionaries and Minister representing the district would have faced the axe," sources quoted Madhusudhanan's letter.

On Wednesday, Madhusudhanan told reporters that the letter written by him was an internal matter of the party and he would not discuss its content with the media. "I will not bring disrepute to the party," he said.
