Five Swedish companies participating in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit said they were participating in the conclave for the first time, not because they have a specific MoU or project for Gujarat but because they believe it is a good venue to meet other businessmen and develop contacts.

In essence, they paraphrased the larger vision Prime Minister Narendra Modi had for VGGS to turn it into 'Davos in Action', meaning transcending it from a regional conference to a conclave of international significance.

"With John Kerry visiting attending the event, you cannot really call it a regional conference. Gujarat is high on priority list," Fredrika Ornbrant, Swedish consul general, who is accompanying the country's delegation, said in an interaction with the media.

Interestingly, they are not planning to visit other similar state conclaves to promote business, like West Bengal, or even the BJP-ruled state's Resurgent Rajasthan summit.

Swedish companies like Ikea, Volvo, Ericsson, Envac and Scania are also conducting a country seminar. The Swedish delegation that includes CEO of automaker Scania is actively looking to explore opportunities for collaboration with Indian companies.

None of the five companies are signing specific MoUs with he government or promising any big-ticket projects. These companies either already have operations here or are already in talks with government agencies. For instance, Scania is in talks with Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara for providing 'green bus' for BRTS and other affordable mass transport.

Envac already has the contract of disposing waste generated at GIFT City. Ikea and Ericsson are exploring opportunities in the state, and Volvo is already present in the market. Director technical solutions of Ericsson Amul Madan, business development manager of Envac Ramanathan Venkateswaran, communication manager of Ikea Patrik Antoni and director pre-sales and marketing Krister Thulin said.
