Suspense over the parole of former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) President Lalu Prasad Yadav continued throughout Wednesday, with the Ranchi jail administration seeking some additional documents to take a call on it.

The RJD chief had moved Ranchi's Birsa Munda central jail administration seeking a five-day parole starting May 10, to attend his elder son Tej Pratap's wedding in Patna on May 12.

However, the jail administration threw a spanner in Lalu's plans of attending Tej's wedding as the RJD president wasn't granted the parole even till Wednesday evening. "The jail inspector general (IG) needs to take into account a number of things such as his medical condition as well as the law and order situation. We've been told there was a delay in some paperwork, because of which, the decision to grant parole could not be taken," an RJD source said.

He added that they had already booked air tickets for Lalu and his two aides, including Bhola Yadav, to fly from Ranchi to Patna on Wednesday evening, but it had to be cancelled.

Lalu is presently serving sentence in three fodder scam cases related to fraudulent withdrawals from the Dumka, Deoghar and Chaibasa treasuries.

Due to his multiple health issues, he is admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi. "The RIMS medical board has already given him a thumbs up to travel as his vital parameters were stable. His sugar level in fasting was around 110, which is almost normal," he said.

Earlier, the engagement ceremony of Tej Pratap and Aishwarya Rai, the elder daughter of former minister Chandrika Rai and former Bihar CM Daroga Rai on April 18, was also performed in the absence of Lalu, who was then admitted at AIIMS-Delhi. Tej Pratap had written an emotional "Miss You Papa" tweet at that time.

Meanwhile, preparations of the nuptial ceremonies are on in full swing in Patna with the invitations sent out to the likes of Sonia Gandhi, Nitish Kumar and Sushil Kumar Modi. The family has even reached out to former CM Rabri Devi's brothers, who have been distanced from the family for the past several years.
