An administrative officer at St Stephen's college who was suspended last month by its governing body for alleged misconduct has sought from it answers to 23 questions regarding the functioning of the institution. The governing body (GB) had given the staffer, Subhash Kumar Dash, time till January 14 to submit a written explanation on the allegations raised against him but he said, "I cannot justify my response to the GB before I have answers to these 23 questions. Hence, I have forwarded my request to the chairman and other GB members."

The 23 questions are related to certain payments made or received by the college, including for conducting exams and LTC advances paid to teaching and non-teaching employees, money received for grant of scholarships and donations received from individuals, companies, trusts, societies, money for waterproofing and renovation work of principal's residence, among others.

"I have been opposing certain financial irregularities going on in the college and, hence, have been targeted by the principal. I want the GB to look into the matters raised by me before examining my case," said Dash.

He has also sought the footage of CCTV cameras installed in front of his official residence as well as of those outside the principal's office.

Dash was suspended first by St Stephen's Principal Valson Thampu for engaging in "gross misconduct" and sending derogatory and defamatory SMSes to the administration and to the college community under the influence of alcohol.

But after Dash moved Delhi High Court challenging the first order and accusing Thampu of trying to convert him to Christianity, the St Stephen's principal had revoked the suspension following which the court had dismissed the plea.

However, the GB later decided to again suspend Dash, following which a written explanation was sought on the allegations raised against him.
