Suspended Maharashtra Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Sunil Paraskar, who was accused of raping a model, is set to reinstated back in the force.

Paraskar, who was discharged by the sessions court, in the month of December, in the rape case filed against him by the model, is set to take charge by the end of the month.

A meeting was held on Monday in Mantralaya, led by the Chief Secretary Swadheen Kshatriya, amidst the presence of Additional Chief Secretary (Home) KP Bakshi and Director General of Police (DGP) Praveen Dixit, to review the more than a year-long suspension of the officer.

According to senior officer, the state government has decided not to appeal against the orders of the sessions court. "The file to reinstate Paraskar had moved shortly after the Winter Session of the state legislative in Nagpur. He has been discharged by the court and as per law he must be reinstated and movements are done to make it happen," the officer told dna.

He refuted the claims that, the Home Department had initiated moved to reinstate the officer of 1997 batch of IPS, even before been discharged by the court.

Paraskar, who only has around 10 months of service left, before retirement, is also due for promotion in the next couple of months, after the Departmental Enquiry (DE) against him is closed.

The officer, who has served in various top positions in the Maharashtra Police, was suspended by the Home Department under the reins of late Home Minister RR Patil in August 2014.

He was accused of having breached various rules of the Central Civil Services, with allegations of deserting his duties. "The DE is set on various charges pressed against him. Some are also on the lines of the same accusations levied in the court. We are sure that, even the DE will fall and he will be back with promotion bestowed upon him in couple of months," an ex-IPS officer said.

While some former IPS officers suggested that, he would be given a post befitting his career-belt and line of experience. Some remarked that, internal politics between the IPS cadre itself, could see him handed a subservient post.

"However, I feel that Home department will be able to deliver justice to him. They will ensure that Paraskar is given a post that suits the level of IPS officer he is," a former DGP said. Meanwhile, Paraskar remained unavailable for comments on the reports of his reinstatement and due promotion.
