Kerala police on Satturday arrested one Shahnaz, a suspected aide of Bangalore blast case accused T Nazeer, for allegedly exchanging letters with the militant while he was brought in a local court near here in connection with a robbery case. Police said at least eight-odd letters have been seized from Shahnaz--most of them allegedly written by Nazeer, an alleged LeT militant. Content of some of the letters written by Nazeer allegedly deals with cases related to Bangalore blast, police said. They indicated that Shahnaz, a native of Perumbavoor, is likely to be charged with sections of the UAPA Act for his alleged link with terrorist.

They, however, did not elaborate. The letters were handed over to Shahnaz yesterday as Nazeer, who is lodged in a Bangalore jail, was brought in Kolencherry First Class Judicial Magistrate court amid tight security thrown around him by cops from both Karnataka and Kerala, police said. Police, who had taken note of Shahnaz's presence in the court premises, took him into custody. The letters were recovered during the preliminary interrogation, police said.

Nazeer was produced in the court in connection with a 2002 case in which he allegedly attacked a jewellery shop owner and his son and made away with over two kg of gold for funding terror activities. Nazeer, who allegedly masterminded a blast in the Karnataka capital in 2005, was allegedly involved in various terror related cases in Kerala.
