External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday wrapped up a successful visit to China, where besides holding bilateral discussions, she also attended the ministerial meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) — a Eurasian political, economic, and security organisation. Her two-day stay in Beijing was marked by the announcement of an informal summit between Chinese president Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, resumption of Kailash Mansarowar Yatra through Nathu La route and even the resumption of data sharing for Sutlej and Brahmaputra rivers. Leaving Beijing, she has now reached Ulaanbaatar in what will be the first visit of an Indian External Affairs Minister to Mongolia in 42 years. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted that both countries were reconnecting over their shared Buddhist heritage.

Earlier in Beijing, while addressing the SCO meet, Swaraj launched a veiled attack on Pakistan and insisted that the fight against terrorism should also identify states that "encourage, support and finance" the menace and "provide sanctuary" to terror groups. In the presence of Pakistan Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, she raised the issue of global terrorism and protectionism. "We have to work together to wipe-out this scourge from the face of the earth," she said.

The meeting was also attended by foreign ministers Wang Yi of China, Kairat Abdrakhmanov of Kazakhstan, Abdyldaev Erlan Bekeshovich of Kyrgyzstan, Sergey Lavrov of Russia, Sirodjidin Muhridinovich Aslov of Tajikistan, Abdulaziz Khafizovich Kamilov of Uzbekistan, and Secretary General of the SCO Rashid Alimov among others.

She, however, didn't lend her support to China's Belt and Road initiative, which will likely be a key measure of the success of PM Modi's trip to China on Friday and Saturday.
