In a huge embarrassment for the Congress party, the Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj has retweeted a Congress post questioning her failure over the death of 39 Indians in Iraq, which received votes in her favour.

On March 25th, the official Twitter handle of the Congress party had posted a question asking whether if the death of Indians was the minister's biggest failure. "Do you think the death of 39 Indians in Iraq is Sushma Swaraj’s biggest failure as Foreign Minister?," the question read.

The Congress post was liked by over 2,900 users and retweeted by nearly 3,200.

However, in a huge embarrassment for the grand old party, of the 33,879 votes, only 24% said that it was Swaraj's failure as foreign minister while 76% people voted in her favour.

Several Twitter users were amused by Swaraj's move to retweet.

Here's how Twitter users reacted

Last week, Sushma Swaraj made the statement about 39 Indians' death in the Parliament, who were abducted by ISIS. The victims, most of whom hailed from Punjab, were working on projects near strife-ridden Mosul when they were kidnapped during their evacuation. Their bodies were buried near the village of Badush, northwest of Mosul, in an area that Iraqi forces recaptured last July.

Congress and Left had slammed Swaraj for giving "false hopes" and "failing to perform its duty", however, Swaraj shot back, saying she had been waiting for "conclusive proof".

"I never gave any false hope to anyone. I was not involved in any falsehood," she said, referring to her statements in Parliament in 2014 and 2017. "I had very clearly said that I will declare them dead if I get conclusive proof. I kept my word. I will get my closure when the families receive the bodies," the minister said, accusing the Congress of indulging in "very cheap level of politics" and having "crossed the limit". "Will we indulge in politics over death as well," she said.
