Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Tuesday escalated his attack on RJD chief Lalu Prasad and his minister sons over "benami properties", when he alleged that a liquor baron had floated a shell company only to amass land for the RJD's first family.

"There is a pattern… a modus operandi to turn black money into white. Be it Delight Marketing Company Pvt Ltd or AK Infosystems Pvt Ltd, the companies are formed by businessmen for some favours. They buy posh pricey properties and later transfer the ownership of shell company and its assets to Lalu and family," Modi told reporters after his weekly Janata Darbar here.

Elaborating on the transaction details of AK Infosystems, floated by businessman OP Katyal and his family in 2006, Modi said, "Till 2014, when the company's 100 per cent shares, directorship and assets worth Rs 50 crore were transferred to Lalu's family, it did not perform any other business apart from buying land for Lalu. It did not even hire a single employee. Why?"

Modi's first "expose" came on April 4, when he alleged irregularities in purchase of soil for Patna zoo from an under-construction mall owned by Lalu's family. A few days later, he claimed that the mall itself was a part of Lalu's benami properties. Ever since, he has been levelling fresh charges against the RJD boss, including misuse of Bihar Chief Minister's official residential address in property papers by Lalu's daughter Chanda and "undisclosed sources of income" of Lalu's elder son and health minister Tej Pratap Yadav.

The documents furnished by Modi in support of his allegations revealed that AK Infosystems had bought land worth Rs 39 lakh in Panapur and Chitkohra (Patna) in 2007, while in 2010, it bought land in Salempur Dumra (Patna) worth Rs 70 lakh. "The company was transferred to the family, which ensured that the property as well as money remain with the family," Modi alleged. He claimed the Katyals had been "helped" in setting up a liquor factory in Bihar when Rabri Devi was the chief minister.

The BJP leader demanded that CM Nitish Kumar recommend a CBI probe into the "benami properties" of Lalu's family, besides oust his sons from the Bihar cabinet for hiding asset details.
