After spending 72 days in judicial custody, Najib Mulla, one of the four corporators accused in the Suraj Parmar sucide case, got bail on Monday.
The Thane sessions court granted him bail on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. The bail applications of the other three corporators – Sudhakar Chavan, Vikrant Chavan and Hanumanth Jagdlae – will come up for hearing on February 17, 20 and 22, respectively. The four had surrendered in the case.
Once released, Najib has to present himself before the investigation officer between 3 pm and 5 pm every alternate day. He can only attend Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) meetings but can't participate in its day-to-day work.
Suraj Parmar, former president of the Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industry committed suicide in the afternoon of October 7, 2015, by shooting himself. He left behind a 15-page suicide note, in which he said that the four corporators provoked him to take such a step. After writing their names, he cancelled it saying that he did not want his family members to be harassed after his death. A case was registered under Section 306 of the IPC.
