The Suraaj Sankalp Yatra, which became the bane for Ashok Gehlot government in state, is now turning out to be a ready-reckoner for the newly-formed government of Rajasthan.

In meetings of different departments being chaired by chief minister Vasundhara Raje, the yatra is proving to be a reality-check for both the babus and the ministers.

At a meeting of the Public Works Department (PWD) officials with the chief minister on Thursday Raje quoted her first-hand experience of the poor condition of roads in the state during, which she gathered during her Suraaj Sankalp Yatra silencing the officials’ who had spun yarns about carpeting good roads in state.

In order to improve the condition of roads and better road connectivity in the state, Raje ordered the construction of an East-West corridor. This road project would include construction of highways and mega-highways connecting eastern districts like Dholpur to the  districts on the western border like Jaisalmer and Barmer.

According to sources, Raje told principal secretary JC Mohanty about the poor roads in the state and has briefed him on the experiences she had during the 14,000 km long Yatra. Raje told him to improve connectivity within 60 days.

Notably, the North-South corridor was developed during Congress government’s tenure, but the East-West corridor remained neglected. Now, the project will be taken up with the help of private consultant. Wherever necessary highway, mega highway, six/four lane highway will be made to ensure improved connectivity.
