People will have to wait for 10 more days to know the outcome of  the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) elections. The Supreme Court has deferred opening the sealed envelope containing results of the RCA polls to January 27.

The division bench of Justice Dave and Justice Kehar was initially expected to announce the results on January 6. But the bench had then said the sealed envelope would be opened on Friday (January 17). And now the court has deferred announcing the results to January 27.

Sources said that the parties in the case were having difficulty in finding senior counsels, so a request was made by the parties to the bench for adjournment of the matter. So the announcement of RCA results was deferred for January 27.  Presently, the Supreme Court is hearing a special leave petition (SLP) filed by Kishore Rungta who has challenged the validity of Rajasthan Sports Act.

The results of RCA elections, which were held in December, are kept in an envelope with the Supreme Court.

If Lalit Modi wins the RCA elections, then there would be a direct contest between Modi and BCCI president N Srinivasan for one-upmanship in the cricket world.

The BCCI has been keeping a close watch on RCA matters and Lalit Modi.

The RCA has been maintaining that it is governed by Rajasthan Sports Act, 2005 while the constitution of BCCI falls in the category of a private contract. Thus, a private contract cannot influence the Sports Act of the state.
