In an embarrassing situation, the Supreme Court on Thursday asked a group of CBI officers, who were present there to hear the plea against their director Ranjit Sinha in 2 Janpath diaries case, to leave the court-room saying,

"They should do the duty rather than wasting time here."

"This court is not hearing 2G case but CBI chief is facing allegations in his personal capacity," a bench headed by Chief Justice of India HL Dattu said.

The bench, which was hearing advocate Prashant Bhushan's plea for removal of Sinha from 2G case following allegations of his meeting with the accused persons, reprimanded joint director Ashok Tiwari for asking senior advocate KK Venugopal, who has been appearing for CBI in the case, not to argue for the agency on Thursday.

Venugopal was apparently present in the court to argue on behalf of the CBI, in case special public prosecutor Anand Grover raises any question of law on 2G matter noting on the files during the arguments.

Soon after Anand Grover completed his arguments in the case and alleged that the file noting in the case clearly established that "the director had tried to interfere in the case" and the court asked Sinha's lawyer to respond.
Bhushan's lawyer brought to the court's notice that even Sinha has instructed Tiwari to inform Venugopal that let advocate Vikas Singh argue for CBI today since Singh is representing Sinha.

To this, the bench called Tiwari, who along with other colleagues was present in the court room, and questioned his presence saying "You are not agent of CBI Director. You cannot be mouth piece of the directors. You don't have to take this responsibility. How is your presence required here? We are not hearing 2G case. It is allegations against Sinha in his personal capacity."

Asking the officers to leave the courtroom, Justice Dattu said, "They should not waste their time here. They should rather go and discharge their duty. They talk about lack of manpower in the agency and several officers were present here since Wednesday."
