Senior advocate KTS Tulsi on Thursday said that the Sunanda Pushkar Tharoor death case is turning into a game of political football, but added that former union minister and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is legally obliged to join the investigation.
"This case is increasingly becoming like a political football. It is very disturbing to learn that the police tried to fabricate evidence," he added.
Further commenting on the mysterious death case of Sunanda Pushkar, he said, "BJP is saying that the earlier investigation was not correct and now the Congress is saying that the present investigation is biased, is under political pressure."
"He is legally obliged to join the investigation," he added.
"When Tharoor is said to have written a letter to the Commissioner of Police complaining against third degree methods having been employed to force and extort confession out of his servant is very disturbing, that means that the government will go to any extent for political vendetta, and they will even fabricate evidence. A criminal case should stay aloof from politics and politicians. This makes out a very strong point in favour of insulating the police from political pressure," KTS Tulsi said.
According to reports, Delhi Police has issued a legal notice to Shashi Tharoor, asking him to join the murder probe of his wife Sunanda Pushkar at the earliest.
Delhi's Police Commissioner BS Bassi had said on Wednesday that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to carry forward the probe in the case.
Bassi also said that the police is as of now is proceeding according to the action plan, and added that every aspect is being examined carefully.
Sunanda, who married Tharoor in 2010, had checked into The Leela Hotel in Chanakyapuri a day before her death on January 17, 2014.
Tharoor's aides said the couple had checked into the luxury hotel because of renovation work at his Delhi bungalow.
Prior to her death, Sunanda was embroiled in a spat with Pakistan-based journalist, Mehr Tarar, whom she accused of stalking her husband Shashi Tharoor.
