Three suspects in the Sunanda Pushkar murder case, two of them employed by Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and the third a friend, will undergo the polygraph test. The move came after a city court on Wednesday allowed the Delhi Police to conduct lie-detector test on –Shashi Tharoor's friend Sanjay Dewan, a domestic help–Narain Singh and a driver–Bajrangi.

Police had said that "it has found that all three are concealing material facts and didn't disclose several issues related to the death of Sunanda Pushkar". Officials had also told the court that the three are very well acquainted with the facts related to Sunanda's death.

Metropolitan magistrate Sunil Kumar Sharma had issued summons to the three men saying all the three suspects to be present in court on May 20 and granted permission to the police to conduct the tests.
"Police officials investigating the case have written to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory and requested their assistance to conduct the test. It might take a week or two to conduct the test," said the source.

According to the source, a questionnaire is also being made by a team of officials. "The questionnaire will be detailed and will take in consideration the evidences that have come up during the investigation. More importantly, the previous statements of the suspects would be scrutinised more closely and compared with the answers they give during the test," the source added.

Police had claimed that the suspects remained silent about a power cut on January 17, 2014 around 7pm in room no 345 at Leela Hotel just before Sunanda Pushkar was discovered dead in the room. Police also claim that despite being at the venue, the suspects failed to explain how Sunanda received injury marks on her body.

Similarly, none of them told police about Shashi Tharoor's relation with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar, which was a bone of discord between the couple, as well as about Sunanda's plan to "expose Tharoor in her press conference", which was to be held on January 17, 2014.

The police had claimed Tharoor's friend Dewan did not wake up Pushkar for two and a half hours and also not explained why he preferred Dr Rajan Mohan, who came all the way from Patel Nagar in West Delhi, over the hotel doctor, who could come immediately. It had alleged that Dewan did not give proper explanation for sending driver Bajrangi to bring Dr Mohan even without meeting Pushkar in her room.
Regarding suspect Narain, police had claimed it was found that he had accompanied the Tharoor couple from AIMS hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, and remained with Pushkar in the hotel from January 15-17, 2014 till her death and that he was very well-acquainted with the facts relating to her death.

"The results of the test will surely throw some light in the case," a police officer told dna.

Mysterious death
Sunanda Pushkar, wife of former Union Minister Tharoor, was found dead in the hotel suite on January 17 last year, days after a public spat on Twitter where she accused her husband of having an affair with the Pakistani journalist. In the first week of January this year, police claimed that Sunanda Pushkar (51) was poisoned, and registered a murder case against unknown persons. A Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed to probe the case, is learnt to be looking into a possible link with Indian Premier League.
