The western part of the axis of monsoon trough at mean
sea level continues to run close to the foothills of the
Himalayas and eastern part of it now runs through Patna,
Bankura, Diamond Harbour and thence southeastwards to
eastcentral Bay of Bengal. A cyclonic circulation extending
upto 5.8 kms a. s. l. lies over north Bay of Bengal and
neighbourhood tilting southwestwards with height. Under its
influence, a low pressure area is likely to develop during
next 48 hrs. The east-west shear zone now runs roughly along
Lat.12 N and extends between 5.8 and 7.6 kms a. s. l.
The western disturbance as an upper air cyclonic
circulation over northeast Afghanistan and adjoining north
Pakistan now lies over north Pakistan and neighbourhood and
extends between 3.1 and 3.6 kms a. s. l. with a trough aloft
with its axis at 5.8 kms a. s. l. running roughly along Long.
72 E to the north of Lat. 28 N. System is likely to move
east-northeastwards. The north - south trough from Telangana
to south coastal Tamil Nadu has become less marked. The
cyclonic circulations over (i) northeast Bihar and
neighbourhood and (ii) west Assam and neighbourhood have
become less marked.
The southwest Monsoon has been active over Gangetic
West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and north interior Karnataka.
It has been subdued over Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh,
Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and
Kashmir, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat State, Marathwada
and Vidarbha.
Cumulative Rainfall: Total rainfall during the past 24
hours reported by 350 stations in the plains is 174.3 cms.
Normal for these 350 stations is 390.5 cms.
