In yet another case of shocking medical negligence, severed foot of a man was kept between his legs at a hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur.

The patient has been identified as one Atul Pandey. The 48-year-old had lost a foot when a train ran over him.

The locals rushed Pandey to a nearby district hospital. During the course of treatment, the severed foot was kept between his legs. It was only removed by the doctors when people started clicking pictures of it.

Considering Pandey's deteriorating condition, doctors later referred him to Lucknow.

However, Chief Medical Superintendent of the hospital Yogendra Yati denied any medical negligence and said Pandey was given the best treatment.

The incident is a stark reminder of medical apathy in UP hospitals. On March 12, two doctors at a government hospital were suspended after a man’s severed leg was used as his pillow at a state-run super-speciality health facility.

A probe was ordered after stomach-churning images of school bus conductor Ghanshyam (28), lying on a stretcher, went viral from Jhansi’s Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College. More action is likely in the case of extreme insensitivity after the inquiry report is in. A hospital probe committee is scanning CCTV footage and recording statements to fix accountability.

The amputated foot was allegedly used as a headrest because there was no pillow available, the latest in a series of controversies to have hit the BJP-ruled state.

Later, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced Rs 2 lakh to Ghanshyam. The CM had also directed DG, Medical Education, to submit a detailed report on the incident.
