Days after Supreme Court asked Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi to apologies for his statement on blaming the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and for assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, BJP MP Subramanian Swamy brought up the issue in Rajya Sabha, this time blaming the then Congress leadership for a shoddy investigation and mishandling the murder of Father of the Nation.

Swamy received resistance from the Congress benches as he tried to raise the issue of unanswered questions behind Gandhi's death during the Zero Hour. But, outside the House he announced that if Rahul Gandhi does not express regret, the court will put him behind bars.

Referring to the recently declassified files on the death of Mahatma Gandhi, Swamy said that the files point out that Mahatma Gandhi's body was not subjected to post mortem to establish whether he was shot by Nathuram Godse and how did he succumb to his injuries. "As a result, there is no clarity on the number of bullets fired. Newspapers said there were four bullets, public prosecutor said it was three and there were three empty chambers in Godse's gun. However Godse told the court that he had fired only two rounds. The archives need to be re-looked to establish the truth," said Swamy.

Congress deputy speaker Anand Sharma rose in protest as Swamy targeted Rahul Gandhi. "He has a mischievous agenda. I have a point of order," said Sharma.

However, even before Swamy could drive his point home, the time allotted for Zero Hour was over. Swamy had to leave his speech midway.

However, speaking outside the House, Swamy added, "Instead of taking Gandhi ji to the hospital, he was left to die at Birla House. He did not die immediately by the bullet, but he bled to death and no medication was made available to him," he added.

Challenging the Congress party's stand that Sardar Patel had banned RSS, Swamy pulled out Patel's letter to Jawaharlal Nehru from the archives dated February 27, 1948, to establish that Patel never banned
the RSS.

Supreme Court last week had asked Rahul Gandhi to apologies for defaming RSS for Mahatma Gandhi's murder. Gandhi has refused to take his statement back. The Congress party has decided to fight the case.

"The UPA government hid the Gandhi files. Now they are in public domain giving ample evidence to establish that RSS was never involved. Rahul Gandhi will be left with no choice. He will either have to apologies or march to jail," said Swamy.
