Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today said students and youth are effective ambassadors and torch bearers of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

She was visiting Nonakuppam village in neighbouring Ariyankuppam commune panchayat limits on her bicycle accompanied by a number of students of a private higher secondary school.

She said government would lose no time in responding to the grievances of people, adding, students and youths could be mobilised as "effective ambassadors and torch bearers of the cleanliness movement."

After seeing the plight of the backwaters in the village polluted by discharge of sewage and dumping of solid waste, Bedi asked officials of PWD and the commune Panchayat to evolve an action plan to protect the backwaters.
