Paying no heed to opposition’s demand on encounters, the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced in the UP Council that his government’s crackdown against criminals in the state will continue.

Replying on opposition’s charge, the Chief Minister accused the opposition parties of patronizing and showing sympathy towards hardcore criminals who are being eliminated in the police encounters. He declared that police encounters against criminals will continue to establish rule of law in the state.

“It is a dangerous sign for democracy when responsible people and parties show sympathy towards criminal elements. Noida incident was just a shoot-out and not a fake encounter as opposition has charged. Even the person who was shot has admitted it,” said the Chief Minister.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has already served a notice to the Yogi Adityanath on fake encounters in the state.

A total of 40 dreaded criminals have been gunned down in 1200 encounters, and this will continue, the chief minister said.

The Chief Minister informed the Upper House that so far about 40 hardcore criminals were killed in about 1200 police encounters. “This will continue till state is free from criminals,” he stated.

On the Chairman’s directive for a CBI probe into fake encounters, Yogi Adityanath urged the Chairman to reconsider his decision after his reply to the House. On Chief Minister’s objection to CBI probe, the Leader of Opposition Ahmed Hasan said that “it was irrelevant now to raise objection after Chairman’s directive for a CBI probe.”

On Chief Minister’s request, the Chairman of the Upper House Ramesh Yadav has, however, reserved his decision.
