An idol worth Rs 15 crore, which was stolen from a temple in the state, has been recovered from two youths while they were trying to sell it, police said today. The 55-kg idol of Goddess Durga was seized last night from the youths near Parsuiya village here while they were on their way to sell it, Superintendent of Police Hiralal said. The 'ashtadhatu' (eight metals) idol is made of gold, silver, copper, zinc, lead, tin, iron and mercury.

The idol was stolen from a temple in Pratapgarh district on March 22 this year, he added. "On a tip-off, a joint team of Peetarpur and Special Operation Group nabbed Vikram Verma (20) and Kuldip Gupta (22) from near Parsuiya village and recovered the idol," he said. The SP has announced a cash reward of Rs 5,000 each for the two teams.
