Naresh Rakh, the accused arrested for the murder of 16-year old Junaid Khan, told the police in his statement that he attacked Junaid and others with a knife after they had hit him with a belt and he'd started bleeding. He further said that he had thrown the murder weapon into a pond in his village at Jataula, Haryana. Rakh works as a guard at the National Museum.

Rakh said in his statement that he boarded the train in which the incident took place from Shivaji Bridge railway station and saw around four Muslim men in the compartment. "When the train reached Okhla railway station, an old man entered the compartment and asked them for a seat. One of them, who was standing, did not move and the aged man then called them 'Muslim' and slapped them," Rakh said. He added that Junaid and the people with him then expressed their rage, after which Rakh and others in the compartment thrashed them and abused them regarding their religion.

Junaid, along with his brother and a friend, got down from the compartment at Tughlakabad railway station, Rakh said.

They later entered the compartment along with seven more Muslim persons and, in order to take revenge, started searching and shouting for the people who had thrashed them.

"I sensed fear and hid myself among the other passengers, but one of them spotted me. They then started thrashing me. My head started bleeding and, in a fit of rage, I took out a knife from my bag and stabbed them," Rakh said.

Since he was wearing blood-stained clothes, he got down from the train at Asavati railway station and fled. Two men gave him a lift to his village in Jataula, where his uncles resides. He threw the knife in a village pond and hid his clothes, Rakh said.
