Accusing government of betraying farmers, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) on Wednesday announced that they are snapping ties with National Democratic Alliance (NDA) both in Centre as well as in state. After announcing the fallout, SSS president Raju Shetti announced that a massive nationwide agitation of farmers will be carried out at Jantar Mantar in November.

Over the last few months, Shetti had given hints of pulling out of the ruling NDA alliance. SSS had even carried out agitation against the government despite being a part of NDA. SSS held a meeting of party's state executive committee in Pune in which members unanimously decided on the pull-out.

Speaking to media after the meet, Shetti said, "We have been fighting for farmers' cause and due to the late BJP leader Gopinath Munde's insistence we decided to be part of the NDA. We held several meetings with top BJP leaders including Narendra Modi, Sushma Swaraj and Lal Krishna Advani where they all assured support for farmers."

"Modi in his election speech in Miraj had assured of giving minimum support price (MSP) equal to 1.5 times the input cost. Even NDA in its manifesto had a mention of this promise. We waited for three-and-a-half year for government to fulfill its promise. I, as a member of Parliament, tried my best to raise the issue but never got any support from others," Shetti added.

"Now we have two clear demands, One is that as per the Swaminathan commission recommendations, MSP should be one-and-a-half times the input cost and there should be complete loan waiver for farmers. With these demands a nationwide agitation will be carried out in November," Shetti added.

"We also faced accusation that we had some hidden agenda to get ministership. However, we have always worked for farmers cause and even after falling out of government, we will be fighting for farmers," he said.

Shetti also made clear that even after pulling out of NDA, it will not destabilise the government. "We have only one MP and in the state also we have one MLC. We also know that.after pulling out of NDA, it will not destabilise the government, however, we are still snapping the ties with NDA on moral grounds," Shetti said.

Coming down hard on the government, Shetti stated that over the years, the condition of farmers have worsened. "Over the past 3.5 years, there has been negative growth in the farming sector and the farmers is getting burdened by more and more loans. In order to show people that it is controlling inflation, the government has destroyed the farmers. Instead of solving the farmers issues, the government kept on playing politics," Shetti said.

After pulling out of NDA, Shetti announced that he would be mobilising the farmers community across the country for a massive agitation at the time of winter session in November. Shetti said, " There are 162 farmers organisations in the country who have come together for farmers cause. Around November 20, farmers across the country are planning to gather at Jantar Mantar for a massive agitation against the government."
