Acting on the orders of Allahabad High Court, UP government today transferred SSP Kanpur Yashaswi Yadav even as junior doctors here continued their strike demanding strict action against the police officer.
Yadav has been attached to the DGP office in Lucknow, a home department spokesman said.

As of now no other official has been posted in Kanpur in Yadav's place, the spokesman said.

Taking suo moto cognisance of the matter, the high court had yesterday directed the state government to transfer SSP, Kanpur and ordered a judicial probe into the matter.

Junior doctors at King George Medical University, meanwhile, continued their strike today, paralysing health services at the facility.

"The strike of the junior doctors is on...We have requested them to provide services in emergency section", KGMU, Medical Superintendent Dr SN Shankhwar told PTI.

"We are continuing our strike here...The strike is on in the entire state. Some people are creating confusion in this regard. We are united and our strike is on...SSP, Kanpur might have been transferred, but we want action against him", an agitating junior doctor said.

Justices Imtiyaz Murtaza and Devendra Kumar Upadhaya of the high court had yesterday clarified that the order of transfer is only to resolve the situation and should not be taken as a "stigma" on the officials.

The strike, which adversely impacted medical services in several parts of the state, was called after medicos at GSV Medical College in Kanpur were allegedly beaten up by Kanpur Police and supporters of SP MLA Irfan Solanki following an altercation.

Amidst reports of deaths in different districts of the state due to the strike, UP government yesterday decided to invoke the Essential Services Maintenance Act.

Doctors in Kanpur have called off the strike after the UP government decided to invoke ESMA and the intervention of the high court in the matter.
