A head constable was killed while an assistant-sub-inspector of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawans was injured on Wednesday evening in an attack at Banihal in the Ramban district of Jammu.
However, there is mystery surrounding the incident as SSB maintained that it was terror attack by the militants, but the Jammu and Kashmir police is not ruling out fratricide.
"It is a terror attack for sure. We were guarding the under-construction tunnel and there is a platoon post about 24 kilometers from Banihal railway station. These two boys, after performing their duties, were falling back to residential barracks when they were ambushed on the way. They were fired at from a close range with a 9 mm gun. We do not use this weapon," said Rajinder Bhumbla, deputy inspector general of SSB.
However, J&K Director General of Police Dr SP Vaid said it appears to be a case of fratricide. "They had a scuffle in which one person is dead and another injured. The injured has been hit by a blunt object on his jaw,", he said.
Meanwhile, SP, Ramban, Mohan Lal they are investigating the matter and not ruling out anything.
