Sridevi no more: PM Modi condoles shocking death of legendary actor, says ‘saddened by the untimely demise’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed his grief over the untimely demise of veteran actor Sridevi.

"Saddened by the untimely demise of noted actor Sridevi. She was a veteran of the film industry, whose long career included diverse roles and memorable performances. My thoughts are with her family and admirers in this hour of grief. May her soul rest in peace," the Prime Minister tweeted.

A Padma Shri recipient, Sridevi died on Saturday night due to a cardiac arrest in Dubai, where she was attending a family wedding with her husband Boney Kapoor and her younger daughter Khushi.

Not just the Prime Minister, several other politicians also expressed their shock over the actor’s sudden demise.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh also expressed shock to the sudden demise of the legendary actor.

"Anguished to learn of the sudden demise of veteran film actor Sridevi. She had a long & successful career in the film industry with several remarkable performances. Her demise is a big loss to the film industry. My thoughts are with her family & fans. May her soul rest in peace," Singh wrote on Twitter.

Union Minister Smriti Irani called her ‘a powerhouse of acting’ in her Twitter tribute. ‘Sridevi - a powerhouse of acting , a long journey embellished with success comes to a sudden end. My condolences to her loved ones and fans,’ Irani wrote on Twitter.  

 

 

Congress President Rahul Gandhu also took to Twitter to offer his condolences for the veteran actor. "Shocked to hear about the sudden and untimely death of one of India’s favourite actress, Sridevi. Sridevi was an incredibly talented and versatile actress whose vast body of work spanned a range of genres and languages. My condolences to her family. May her soul rest in peace," Gandhi tweeted.

 

 

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor wrote a moving tribute and said Sridevi was ‘far too young to be snatched away from her family. It will take a long time to digest such unbelievable news.’

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala also expressed his shock and said, ‘A tragic loss as Indian cinema loses its ‘Chandani’. Sridevi was easily the most versatile actress with a rare quality to traverse across cine boundaries and a range of roles. Condolences to family & loved ones. RIP!’
