Sanctity of the post of the country's Prime Minister should not be ignored, spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said on Saturday, referring to the Jama Masjid Shahi Imam's decision not to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his son's anointment ceremony.

"I do not want to comment much on this but I believe that the sanctity of the Prime Minister's post should be maintained while keeping politics and religion apart," Ravi Shankar told reporters, when asked about Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari's decision to invite Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, ignoring Modi.

The spiritual leader said the unity of the country was foremost and all the citizens of the country should work towards it in a dedicated manner. He said the people as well as leaders must rise above narrow partisan issues and work for the larger good of the country.

He also termed as "historic" the slash in fuel prices and said that "fuel" was the main switch of inflation and hoped that inflation would come down significantly. When asked about his opinion on the Congress party's functioning, he said that there should be democracy in the party. "When there is democracy in the country, parties should also follow the same," he said, replying to a question whether there should be a democratic system in the party for choosing the leadership.

Expressing dissatisfaction and concern at the magnitude of corruption, Ravi Shankar said that the youth have become disillusioned with the state of things in the past few years. However, he hoped that the new government at the Centre would set things right.

He also appreciated the government's 'Make in India' initiative, which, he said, would make the country a manufacturing hub.
