Spiritual gurus, not political leaders, can bring harmony in India, says Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

He said people were straying from the path of ethical life and spiritual leaders had to right this.

Speaking on Thursday at the All India Sanyasin conference at Govindapuram, near Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar stated that only spiritual leaders can bring harmony in India. The New Indian Express reports that he said not political, but only spiritual leaders could end the caste and communal tension in India.

The daily reports that Ravi Shankar said people were straying from the path of ethical life and spiritual leaders had to right this. He added that Sanyasis should also feel some sadness so that they will work towards this.

Taking a dip at the Mahamaham tank at Kumbakonam was considered auspicious, but Sri Sri stated that just taking a dip would not cleanse a person of their sins and people should also take a dip in the pond of wisdom.

Sri Sri went on to quote from the Srimad Bhagavatam and said that the Bhakti movement was 'born in Tamil Nadu, nurtured in Karnataka and attained old age in Gujarat'.
