A group of local Samajawadi Party leaders on Thursday submitted a complaint letter with the police against Congress leader and Mathura MLA Pradeep Mathur for allegedly illegally using red beacon on his car.

The group, led by Samajwadi Party's city General Secretary Arun Dikshit, demanded legal action in the matter.

They alleged that the Congress MLA had been illegally using the red beacon on his car.

Dikshit claimed since Mathur does not hold any Constitutional post, he has no right to use red beacon on his car and demanded legal action in the matter.

He said the police has assured them of action as per the law.

Meanwhile, presenting his explanation, Mathur said, "All district officials in the state, including Tehsildar, SDM and DM, use blue beacon on their cars. According to the protocol, an MLA's designation is higher than the Chief Secretary and so legislators can use red beacon on their cars." "If MLAs in other states have the right to use red beacon on their car, then why not in Uttar Pradesh," he said.

According to ASP (Traffic) Ashutosh Dwivedi, MLAs are not included in a list of dignitaries who can use red beacon on their cars in the state.

He said the list was issued by the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department on March 10 this year following an order issued by the Supreme Court in connection with a case last year.
