The much-talked about 'iftar' party hosted by Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi began on Monday evening.

Several political leaders were seen arriving at the 'iftar' party on Monday evening. 

Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit, who received an invitation as well, was seen sitting with Congress leader Anand Sharma at the iftaar party. 

Also spotted at the event were Salman Khurshid, Raj Babbar, Nitish Kumar, Omar Abdullah and Telangana leader Hanumnatha Rao.

RJD chief Lalu Prasad and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee were unable to attend the iftaar dinner due to prior commitments.

Earlier the reports said that Mulayam Singh Yadav (SP), Mayawati (BSP), Sitaram Yechury (CPI-M), H D Deve Gowda (JD-S), E Ahamed (IUML), Kanimozhi (DMK), D Raja (CPI) and Sudip Bandhopadhyay (TMC) were among the many to be invited to the party.
