A day after Shiv Sena served an ultimatum to BJP, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday expressed the confidence that differences with Shiv Sena will be resolved.

After assuming the additional charge of the Information and Broadcasting (I-B) Ministry at Shastri Bhawan, Jaitley said, "some problems take care of themselves".

Sena-BJP ties hit a new low in the wake of a spat over Cabinet expansion at the Centre and failure to accommodate the Sena in the Maharashtra government in Mumbai.

Sena MP Anil Desai not taking oath as Union Minister yesterday and the induction of Suresh Prabhu, who had been in the Shiv Sena as Cabinet Minister, had added to the growing chasm between the friends-turned-foes.

Meanwhile, a three-day special session of Maharashtra assembly began on Monday. The first two days will see the members of the 13th Assembly take oath. The new BJP government in Maharashtra is to face a trial of strength on Tuesday after which the Sena would finalise its strategy vis a vis BJP.

Shiv Sena on Sunday served an ultimatum to BJP to come clear on the issue of taking NCP support for the survival of its minority government in Maharashtra within two days, failing which it will sit in the opposition.

In the continuing war of nerves with BJP, the Sena ordered its Rajya Sabha member Anil Desai, who was to be sworn-in as a minister in the Union government returned to Mumbai over persisting differences between the two parties on power-sharing in the state, but stopped short of shutting the door on BJP completely.

However, Uddhav kept up the suspense over continuance of its lone member in Union Cabinet, Anant Geete despite the stand-off with BJP. Geete continues in the Union Cabinet while the two parties share power in cash-rich Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
