A day after two Indian solders were mutilated by the Pakistan Border Action Team (BAT), India on Tuesday conveyed to Islamabad that such dastardly act merited unequivocal 'condemnation and response'.

Under the cover of heavy mortar fire, a Pakistani special forces team on Monday sneaked 250 metres across the Line of Control (LoC) into the Poonch sector and beheaded two Indian security personnel.

"Director General of Military Operation (DGMO) Lt Gen AK Bhatt expressed Indian Army's grave concern to his counterpart about the incident on May 01, 17, in Krishna Ghati Sector opposite POK Battal, where in Pak troops targeted Indian patrol on Indian side of LC and mutilated bodies of two soldiers," Additional Directorate General of Public Information said in a release.

"Such dastardly and inhuman act is beyond any norms of civility and merits unequivocal condemnation and response," the DGMO told Pakistan.

Indian Army also conveyed its concern about the presence of BAT training camps in the close vicinity of Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (POK). "Full fire support provided by Pak Army Post located in vicinity of the incident site," it said.

The BAT team had set up an ambush to target the patrol party of the Indian soldiers while the Pakistan Army engaged two Indian forward defence locations (FDL) with rockets and mortar bombs, the officials said.

The soldiers killed were Naib Subedar Paramjeet Singh of 22 Sikh Infantry and Head Constable Prem Sagar of 200th Battalion of Border Security Force (BSF). A BSF constable Rajinder Singh was injured but is out of danger.

There have been several BAT attacks in the past in which Indian jawans have been beheaded or their bodies mutilated.

On October 28, 2016, militants attacked a post and killed an Indian Army soldier and mutilated his body close to the Line of Control (LoC) in the Machil sector.

In January 2013, Lance Naik Hemraj was killed and his body mutilated by a BAT. It had also beheaded Lance Naik Sudhakar Singh. Constable Rajinder Singh of the BSF battalion had suffered injuries in the attack.

Earlier in the day, highlighting the fact that the Monday's incident, BSF revealed that BAT involved in the attack, comprises Mujahedeen terrorists as well.

In Islamabad, the Pakistani army said it did not commit any ceasefire violation on LoC or a BAT action in the Krishna Ghati sector.
