If Dinesh MN — an accused IPS officer of the Rajasthan cadre — is to be believed, Sohrabuddin was a key operative of Rasul Party, a Pakistan-based gangster and the main conspirator behind the killing of former home minister Haren Pandya and the Akshardham terrorist attack.

Dinesh MN, former superintendent of Udaipur, is behind bars for the past three years in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh case. The IPS officer is facing charges for orchestrating Sheikh’s fake encounter.

Dinesh MN wrote a letter to his higher officers after Sohrabuddin’s encounter in 2005, in which he spoke about the latter’s dreaded activities in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Dinesh categorically termed Sohrabuddin as an operative of Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Toiba and stated that he was involved in anti-national
activities.

Dinesh further said that Sohrabuddin was the aide of Rasul Party in India. Rasul Party is the former aide of Abdul Latif, an underworld don in Ahmedabad, who was later killed in an encounter in 1998. According to police records, Party fled to Pakistan after the police went after him for his anti-national activities. Latif’s other henchmen Sharifkhan alias Chhota Dawood also fled to Pakistan from police custody.

The CBI, which is also investigated the Haren Pandya murder case from 2003, has Rasul Party as an absconding accused in their chargesheet and he is still at large.
