The graft allegations levelled by CBI's own vigilance unit against two IPS officers involved in Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case probe could not be substantiated during detailed investigations, the agency said on Thursday.

Referring to a news report which claimed that DIG P Kandaswamy and SP Amitabh Thakur had allegedly taken Rs3 crore to shield a banker, a suspect in the fake encounter case, CBI on Thursday said the allegations against the officers were enquired into but could not be substantiated.

"Both the officers have completed their term with the agency and repatriated to their respective home cadre," a CBI spokesperson said.

Agency's special unit had submitted its report in 2011 seeking further probe against one of the officers but the recommendations were not accepted as allegations could not be substantiated during detailed verification.

One of the suspect in the fake encounter had alleged that he along with an accomplice who was arrested in 2011 had arranged Rs3 crore for Thakur to sheild a suspect named Yashpal Chudasama from fake encounter case probed by CBI, sources said.

He alleged that money was transferred through hawala route to the officer.

Chudasama, a close aide of former Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah and brother of Abhay Chudasama, former DCP crime who is an accused in the case, allegedly tampered with evidence and threatened witnesses.

The enquiry report recommending a preliminary enquiry was submitted during 2012 when AP Singh was the chief of the agency, they said.
