The SMS Hospital’s administration has proposed a big expansion plan for its campus. The plan proposes development of a comprehensive cancer care centre (CCCC).
The administration wants to construct this centre at bungalow number 32 on the campus of Maharani’s College which is a property of Rajasthan University.
In a letter sent to the chief secretary, the hospital’s medical superintendent, Virendra Singh, proposed to construct the centre at plot number 32.
The superintendent said that the land is most suited as it has remained unutilised so far and also shares a boundary with the hospital. “The centre is need of the hour to reduce the workload on SMS Hospital,” wrote Singh in his letter.
While talking to dna, Singh said, “In the last six months only, over 11 lakh patients registered at SMS Hospital. The centre will help share the burden. It will be utilised exclusively for the treatment of cancer patients.” The superintendent has also demanded the vacant 13-bigha land lying adjacent to Government Kalyan Bhawan.
Singh informed the chief secretary that the land is owned by the SMS Hospital but is currently under the possession of Jaipur Municipal Corporation. The hospital’s administration feels that the vast land could be utilised for developing facilities for the patients and so it should be immediately handed over to the hospital.
In order to provide easy entry to patients’ vehicles in the hospital, the superintendent has demanded to widen the road existing between Dhanvantari OPD and Maharaja’s College.
The road should be widened up to 100 feet towards the Maharaja’s College side. Beside this, a piece of land adjoining Maharani’s College has already been demanded for developing a ‘dharmshala’ for the relatives of patients.
All these demands have been raised before the chief secretary, but none of them has been accepted yet. Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the chief secretary had telephoned the RU V-C and asked him to consider the proposal of SMS Hospital to set up the cancer centre.
