The Coimbatore district administration in Tamil Nadu has come out with an SMS-based system to help voters to know the number of people in the queues at polling booths, so that they can accordingly adjust their time and reach there to cast their votes in the polls scheduled for Thursday, April 24.

This novel method by the administration, which has taken untiring efforts to create awareness among the public on the need to exercise their franchise, will ensure that people avoid long waits at the poll booths and help achieve a good turnout, official sources said. Three assembly segments – Coimbatore South, Coimbatore North and Koundanpalayam – have been selected for this system, claimed to be the first in Tamil Nadu, they said.

The voters should sent their SMS to 092480 82864 prefixing the first English letter of the constituency – S, N or K – to know the number of voters in the queue.
