Union Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani, who stoked a controversy following her meeting with an astrologer, lashed out at the media on Monday for bringing her personal life under the scanner.

"I recognise that I bring TRPs. I recognise that and I appreciate the effort to continue to keep me in the headlines," Irani told the media. Congress leader Rajeev Shukla, however, refused to comment on the issue.

"I think 80% politicians approach astrologers and astrologers approach them. So, why do you single out one lady? Let her go," he said.

Irani had travelled to Karoi village in Bhilwara along with her husband Zubin Irani to meet the astrologer.

The visit was aimed at expressing gratitude to the astrologer, who had told her last year that she would become a minister even if she loses the 2014 general elections.

Irani had lost to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha polls.
