The cascading effect of the recent West Bengal assembly polls was seen inside the Rajya Sabha, with Trinamool Congress (TMC) siding with the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on the issue to making
Aadhaar mandatory for availing government subsidies.

The floor management of the house reflected on how TMC with the other opposition parties ganged up without taking the Congress along. The three parties without the support of the leading opposition party
disrupted the proceedings of the house for the first half of the day.

While SP wanted to make Aadhaar a political issue, both TMC and BJD backed SP in an attempt to isolate the Congress. The Congress in the Bengal election had sided with the left parties for contesting against
TMC.

At the beginning of the Zero Hour, Ram Gopal Verma of SP raised the issue and said that the government should reconsider its stand on making Aadhaar mandatory to avail government subsidies. "The centre has issued instructions to the state government to stop ration card benefits, pension and subsidies LPG of those not having Aadhaar card.
A lot of people are being affected because they do not have Aadhaar," said Verma.

Verma found support in Derek O'Brien and Dilip Tirkey who too said that the issue was grave and that it was not the issue of UP alone, but affected West Bengal, Odisha and all other states.

While the members of TMC, SP and BJD trooped into the well raising anti government slogans, the Congress remained a spectator. The other opposition parties together managed to stall the proceedings of the house for the entire first half of the day. Even Tapan Kumar Sen of the CPI came out in support of the united non Congress opposition.

As a matter of representation, only Rajiv Shukla of the Congress made a brief mention updating the house about the work done by the UPA government.

The Congress which had initiated the project of linking Aadhaar with the DBT. So the members of the Congress avoided debate on the issue.

Despite senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu assured the house that the poor will not get effected and the opposition refused to relent.

The BJP which was keen to conducting the legislative business listed during the second half of the day than carrying on the executive work, also did not resist the house getting adjourned during the Zero Hour and Question Hour.
