A game of small margins: 8 seats Congress won by less than 2000 votes in Karnataka

Congress has accepted the defeat in Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018 but the party has extended support to the JD(S) to form the government in Karnataka. BJP which looked set to form the next government in Karnataka as the saffron party inched towards the halfway mark appears to be in trouble now.

Congress has accepted the defeat in Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018 but the party has extended support to the JD(S) to form the government in Karnataka. BJP which looked set to form the next government in Karnataka as the saffron party inched towards the halfway mark appears to be in trouble now. 

BJP is likely to finish short of a few seats to achieve magic number of 112. This means JD(S) has become a kingmaker in this situation. Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has got in touch with JD (S) chief Deve Gowda and offered Chief Minister post to the party. JD(S) core committee meeting has been called in Bangalore to discuss the future course of action. According to Congress leader KC Venugopal, "Congress and JD(S) are jointly meeting the Governor in the evening today

In Maski, Congress candidate Pratpagouda Patil won by a mere 213 votes, garnering 60387 to BJP candidate Basangouda Turvihal’s 60174. In Pavagada, Congress’ Venkata Ramanappa won by 399 votes.

The Kungdol seat saw Channabasappa Sathyappa Shivalli beat BJP’s Chikkanagoudra Siddanagoud Ishwaragoud by 634 votes, while BC Patil won by 555 votes in Hirekur.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today resigned from his post after the Congress was voted out of power in the Assembly elections.       

He met Governor Vajubhai Vala and handed over his resignation, official sources said.

The chief minister went to Raj Bhavan after announcing the Congress' support to the JDS to form the government as the state headed for a hung assembly.

Siddaramaiah, who contested from two constituencies, won Badami, but lost Chamudeshwari in Mysuru.
