On his maiden visit to Thane, prime minister Narendra Modi was welcomed by a crowd of around 30,000. Also it was the first visit to Thane by any prime minister in the last three decades. Modi promised that by 2022, everyone would get a house and that there would be no slums in the country.

Referring to RR Patil's comment that small incidents like terrorist attacks keep happening, Modi told the audience to not repeat such small incidents by giving majority to the BJP. While taking potshots at the Congress and the NCP, the prime minister said Maharashtra, which had always been leading, was brought down by these two parties. The only solution that the Congress-NCP alliance managed to find to resolve the deteriorating condition of the state was to keep shifting chief ministers.

"Although both are separate parties, they are birds of the same feather and separated only to help find their aim. If you continue tolerating their wrongdoings, then they will get more strength and the little goodness left in the state will also be destroyed. October 15 is not a day to choose your future chief minister, it is a day to purify the state," Modi said, assuring the voters that their dreams were his responsibility.

"When I was the Gujarat chief minister, I always had an eye on the happenings in my neighbouring state and noticed how terrorist attacks happened even on local trains... I give you assurance of safety in your state," said Modi. "A common need of every citizen of Mumbai and its satellite cities is better railway connectivity, and for the first time, there will be FDI in railways. All pending work will be sanctioned as soon as money reaches our door," promised the prime minister.

Many youngsters were found cheering for Modi in the crowd. "I managed to get a pass to come inside, but my friends are eagerly waiting outside on the footpath to catch a glimpse of the prime minister," said 22-year-old Pooja Seth, a resident of Thane.
