On the first death anniversary of Hizbul Mujhadeen poster boy Burhan Wani, his father Muzaffar Ahmad Wani urged India and Pakistan to show flexibility in their stands and solve the Kashmir issue through talks.

"India should be mentally prepared for sacrifice. Pakistan too should agree for a solution no matter if they too have to sacrifice. There should be flexibility in their stands. When there will be talks they will understand each other's stand and what is in their heart. I am not a politician and I do not know what Pakistan wants, what Hurriyat wants and what India wants", Muzaffar told DNA.

He said the gun has become a matter of compulsion for the youth of Kashmir given the betrayal. "Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was fighting for plebiscite. He was removed from the post of Prime Minister in a jiffy. In 1975, he signed an accord which was another betrayal with people. People were illiterate and they did not know that it was a betrayal with them and started celebrating. When people felt that they have been cheated they contested elections with an intention to raise their voice for their rights in 1987," he said.

"Mohammad Yousuf Shah alias Syed Salahuddin was an innocent Kashmir who contested elections in 1987. Our votes were relegated to dustbin. It gave birth to gun. There was bloodshed. So many militants died, so many were arrested and so many fled to Pakistan. Later autonomy resolution was passed and that too was dumped by the centre," he said.

"Fear of police has vanished because of the oppression. Every father asks his son to stay indoors and not go to the encounter sites or pelt stones. Sons flee home and go to the encounter site", he said.

Muzaffar, who is also the principal of a government school, said that he does not discuss about his son with his students. "The movement I wear my work clothes, I am no more the father of Burhan. I am the school teacher and I even discourage my teachers to talk about Burhan in school because I want the kids to concentrate on education," he said.
