Situation in four districts improving fast: Assam CM Tarun Gogoi

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday said overall situation in Kokrajhar, Sonitpur, Chirang and Udalguri districts is improving fast following serial attacks and thousands of inmates are returning to their homes from relief camps.

"The overall situation is fast improving and it is returning to normalcy. People are going back to their homes," Gogoi told a press conference here. Gogoi said three persons are still missing since the attack took place on December 23.

"As of total dead is 81 and three persons are still missing. Security persons are continuing their operations to nab the culprits," Gogoi said. Out of the 81 dead, 66 are Adivasis, 13 Bodos and 2 are Bengalis, Assam State Disaster Management Authority said. Over 25,000 refugees hit by NDFB(S) violence in Assam have returned to their homes since yesterday as 13 relief camps were closed with improvement in the situation though more than 1.8 lakh people are still lodged in these temporary shelters.

A total of 102 police cases have been filed in different places and 64 persons have been arrested. Out of these cases, the state government has handed over four cases to NIA.
