Claiming that neighbouring countries like Pakistan and China had to take a step back due to the strong stand taken by the Indian leadership, Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir on Sunday said that if the NDA government would not have come to power in 2014, the situation for India against these countries would have been really difficult.

Ahir was in Pune to attend a felicitation programme of Lt Gen Rajendra Ramrao Nimbhorkar, Indian Army's Master General of the Ordnance, at Bal Gandharva auditorium organised by Zee 24 Taas. Vijay Kuvalekar, Editor-in-Chief of Zee 24 Taas was also present at the felicitation programme.

During his speech, Ahir said, "Previous government had not taken firm stand towards securing our borders. In 2012, 40,000 Rohingya refugees from Myanmar had carried out a march in New Delhi, and the then Central government remained mute. Now even after the mass exodus of the Rohingya, they went to Bangladesh but did not dare to enter Indian territory."

"The present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown strong willpower to secure our borders. After the terrorist attack in Uri, we carried out surgical strike across the Line of Control and gave a strong message not only to Pakistan, but also to the entire world. Even during the Doklam stand-off, China had to take back step," Ahir said.

Ahir who recently visited Gadchiroli after the Maharashtra police carried out massive strike against the Naxalites stated that there was lot of similarities between the surgical strike carried out by India in Pakistan and the strike against Naxalites. "In both these strikes, the enemies suffered massive casualties while our forces did not face a single casualty," he said.

Lt Gen Nimbhorkar who played a significant role in carrying out surgical strike across the LoC said that the strike was much needed. He said, "In order to carry out such strikes, the country's leadership requires strong willpower which was there with the present government and therefore after terrorist attack in Uri, we could respond with the strike across the LoC."

"During that surgical strike also, we did not attack the army camps of Pakistan but we specifically targeted terrorists camps," Nirmbhorkar added.
