Karnataka chief minister, Siddaramaiah came under the line of fire from various farmer, activist groups and opposition leaders on Wednesday after he directed the release of 15,000 cusecs of water from Cauvery basin to Tamil Nadu as per the Supreme Court verdict on Monday.

The protests by the pro-Karnataka activists and members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) targeted the chief minister for failing to take up the state's concerns on Cauvery water issue. The Karnataka chief minister was slammed by former MP and President, Cauvery Protection Group, Mande Gowda for allegedly failing to address the farmer's issues.

Gowda demanded chief ministers's resignation and urged the residents of the Bengaluru to support the Cauvery agitation.

Former chief minister and BJP President, BS Yedyurappa also took a dig at Siddaramaiah-led government and alleged that the state government failed to effectively deal with the Cauvery case.

In Siddaramaiah's home town, Mysuru, a mock funeral of the chief minister was carried out by the protestors.

Many farmers jumped into the Cauvery basin in Sriranagapatna town of Mandya district near Krishna RajaSagra (KRS) dam protesting against the release of water to Tamil Nadu. According to Mandya police officials, at least three farmers attempted suicide in by jumping into Cauvery.

However, the local police and Rapid Action Force stationed near KRS dam rescued the farmers and admitted them to nearby hospital.

Nearly 150 farmers have already committed suicides in the Mandya and Mysuru regions of Karnataka. Even as the chief minister has said that Karnataka would file a review petition in the Supreme Court, the farmers demanded nothing short of stopping the release of water to Tamil Nadu.

As the protests spread to the state capital, Bengaluru, the activists from Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Karnataka Protection Forum) tried to stop the train services from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu. A Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation(KSRTC) official told dna that the bus services from Bengaluru to Mysuru, Mandya, Ooty, Kerala and Tamil Nadu have been temporarily suspended.

He said that some buses that belonged to Tamil Nadu State Road Transport Corporation have been sent back to Tamil Nadu with police protection.

Meanwhile, commuters, especially the employees who commute along Bengaluru-Mysuru and Bengaluru-Mandya routes were dismayed at the abrupt stop of bus services.

"We are looking to take the train now since the bus services are stalled. Although KSRTC is offering us refund for tickets, but the stoppage of bus services is a cause of real inconvenience," Sneha, a government employee who hails from Mysuru told the dna.

Meanwhile, various groups such as Karnataka Private Schools Association, Cable TV Networks Association and petrol pump network have extended their support to the statewide bandh call on September 9 given by pro-Kannada outfits.
