In a heartfelt tribute in Rising Kashmir, slain journalist Shujaat Bukhari's son Tamheed has penned down the gamut of emotions he felt after hearing the shocking news of his father's death. He has also highlighted in the article how his father was a man of unflinching principles and a perfect gentleman. Bukhari along with two of his security guards were gunned down by unknown assailants on 14th June in bustling Srinagar.

Recalling the incident, Tamheed says, The moment I heard it, my legs started trembling, but I was still hoping against hope". Tamheed has written that even when the realisation had crept in of the death, and they were carrying Shujaat's body to his ancestral place for burying, he was hoping for some miracle. Tamheed says, " As I cried and wailed inside the ambulance, I kept hoping against all hopes that he might get up from lap of death and embrace me".

According to him Shujaat was principled, who despite the presence of haters never had any bad words for anyone. Tamheed says Shujaat was the ' epitome of knowledge, benevolence..." Tamheed recalls how Shujaat had helped people during the 2014 Kashmir floods but didn't  publicise his work. Shujaat believed one day Kashmir 'would be free from innocent killings'.

Tamheed in the article recalls how Shujaat spent his entire life looking to achieve peace and participated in several back-channel activities to work towards it. The family has a bloody history with two of Shujaat's cousins earlier dead in crossfire between militants and Army.

Tamheed mentions that he is unsure about how he will live up to his father's legacy. According to him, Shujaat is both a hero and a martyr, who left an indelible impression on journalism in Jammu and Kashmir. Tamheed mentions that Shujaat suffered stroke couple of years back, but fate had his death written on the most auspicious day of  Ramzaan.

Tamheed who is a class X student ended his article saying, "He wasn't fit for the cruel world. God wants pious people like him there".
