Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy has asked Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to give her clarification on the statements reportedly made by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on FIR filed against Army over killings of Civilians in Shopian on Saturday.

According to media reports, Mehbooba Mufti at the floor of the house reportedly said: I had brought the Shopian army firing issue to the notice of the Defence Minister and she said that if you feel that a crime has been committed, go ahead and take an action.

Subramanian Swamy warned that he would raise the issue on the floor of the house if Defence Minister refuses to give clarification.  "Wondering why even today Def minister has not given a clarification. Do we take her silence to mean yes? If it is, then it's totally against party policies, sentiments of Indians and patriotism. If she doesn't give a clarification by 2 Feb I'll ask it in the House," ANI reported  Subramanian Swamy as saying.

Earlier on Tuesday, Swamy tore into Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti-led government for filing a case against some Army personnel in connection with the death of two civilians in Shopian firing.

Cornering Mehbooba, Swamy said, ''What's this nonsense? Dismiss that government. Tell Mehbooba (Mufti) to withdraw the FIR else her government would be toppled.''

He further questioned as to why the Centre is not breaking its alliance with the PDP in Jammu and Kashmir. ''Why are we even running that government? I haven't understood that till date,” he added.

Swamy’s remark came after Jammu and Kashmir Police registered a case against some Army personnel in connection with the killing of two civilians in Shopian district.

Two civilians were killed and nine others injured after the army opened fire on protesters in Ganowpora village of south Kashmir's Shopian district on Saturday. Another civilian injured in the army firing at Shopian succumbed to his injuries in the hospital on Wednesday.

The army opened fire after it came under heavy stone pelting from a mob in the village.
